CLUB MEMBERSHIP
WANT TO JOIN THE CLUB?
Thinking about becoming part of Wakefield Harriers? You’re welcome to attend any of our club training evenings without committing to membership straight away. Simply pay the appropriate training fee and enjoy up to four weeks to decide whether athletics — and our club — are the right fit for you. After this trial period, if you’d like to continue training with us, we’ll invite you to apply for membership.
Joining an England Athletics (EA) affiliated club is a meaningful step in your athletic journey. Before applying, we encourage you to learn about the facilities, benefits, and responsibilities that come with being a member of Wakefield Harriers.
Membership Categories
We offer several types of membership to suit different needs:
- First Claim Membership: For active athletes who represent Wakefield Harriers as their primary club.
- Associate Membership: For non-active social members such as parents or supporters.
- Second Claim Membership: For athletes who belong to another club but are temporarily based in the area due to work or study. This includes limited training and competition rights.
Annual Membership Fees
- £55 – First Claim athletes aged 18+ (includes EA registration)
- £45 – First Claim athletes aged 11–17 (includes EA registration)
- £25 – First Claim athletes aged 8–10
- £15 – Associate (non-active social members)
- £15 – Second Claim members (annual renewal required)
New members are formally accepted at our monthly Committee meetings. Once accepted, your membership continues until you resign in writing or fail to renew.
Important Notes
- Children aged 8+ are welcome, though they fall outside EA jurisdiction until age 11. Competitive opportunities for younger athletes are limited.
- All members under 18 must train under the supervision of our qualified club coaches.
- We expect all members to uphold the club’s standards of conduct. Unacceptable behaviour may result in expulsion. Please review the club rules on the notice board.
- Training session fees are currently £3.00 per session. Road runners who do not use the track pay £1.00 per club night.
- We strongly recommend personal accident or injury insurance if you’re not already covered.
- Please label all personal equipment clearly. Thornes Park Athletic Stadium is a shared facility — valuables should not be left unattended in changing rooms.
