AGE IS BUT A NUMBER!
Wakefield Harriers encourage everyone to stay active and involved in athletics as long as they are able, whether that is through competing or volunteering.
One prime example is long time member and runner Pete Gooding who has marked a determined return to racing after a lengthy absence due to injury.
Since March 2024, Pete has been sidelined with a knee injury that prevented him from training and competing. Following treatment and rehabilitation, he has recently resumed racing through local parkrun events, demonstrating both resilience and consistency.
At Pontefract parkrun on 25 October 2025, Pete recorded a time of 25:43, followed by 25:50 on 8 November 2025. These performances are notable as they surpass the long-standing M75 5k benchmark of 26:13.
It is important to note that parkrun results are not eligible for official club records. However, Pete’s times have been verified through parkrun and are reflected on Power of 10, underscoring the quality of his performances.
To underline the current strength and depth of our veteran runners, Phil Ambler and Francis Mwaba have both broken age category records this year. Francis broke the M60 5k and 10k records and Phil broke the M55 5k and half marathon records!
Pete’s return and Francis and Phil’s records highlight the value of perseverance and commitment to the sport. Their achievements serve as encouragement to fellow members and a reminder of the strength and depth within the Harriers community across all age ranges.
