We had 15 athletes competing in the popular York Even Splits 5k on Friday night, with 10 of those athletes achieving personal bests.  The race consists of 5 laps of a 1km circuit and last night included an additional Super Sprint race taking place straight after the original open race.  The Super Sprint race was open to runners with an expected finish time of 17 minutes or under and to female runners expecting to run 19 mins or under.

In the open race our first athlete to cross the line was junior distance runner James Smith (U16) who ran an impressive pb in 17.41.  Our next Wakefield athlete to cross the line was another one of our junior runners, Henry MacFarlane (U14), who also ran a pb, just breaking 18 minutes with 17.58.  Jacob Shillam was our next runner to finish in a pb of 18.14, followed by Katelyn Walker who had a fine run, finishing close to her pb in 18.40.  Slyvie Ellis paced her race well to run a pb of 19.43, followed by Oliver Hastings (U14) who also broke the 20 minute barrier for the first time with 19.47.  Chris Rippon was the first MV60 on the night with a strong 20.44, followed by Helen Beck (1st F45) in 20.58 and Chris Watson 21.11.

In the Super Sprint race Bobby Brailsford was our first athlete over the line, just outside of his pb with a rapid time of 15.00, finishing in the top 5.  Thomas Hastings (U16) ran another outstanding performance, knocking over 60 seconds off his pb for the distance in 15.19.  The next two Wakefield athletes to cross the line were also two of our junior distance runners, Sydney Swan with a huge pb of 16.38 and Bella Tutt with 16.45, both breaking the 17 minute barrier for the fist time. Bella was also the second female on the night. Scott Eaglen had a strong run and earned himself a pb in 16.47, followed by Suzie Brooke who also recorded a pb of 17.15.  Suzie also finished in the top 5 women.

Well done to everyone who raced and represented the club, you really showcased our talented distance runners across the age groups.
